ICT Spring, latest news
ICT Spring Europe 2012 has announced 38 speakers with a promise of more to come; the list includes top influencers such as Randi Zuckerberg, former Head of Marketing at Facebook and Current Founder and CEO of R to Z Media, Hiroshi Mikitani, Founder and CEO of Rakuten.
Prior to Randi Zuckerberg’s speech on Wednesday, June 20, DCL Group’s very own CEO and Founder, Chairman of EuroDNS, Xavier Buck, will be opening the day with his presentation, “1900 New TLDs – The Inside Story”, an expert’s perspective.
The introduction of an unlimited number of new gTLDs, has many implications for users and international organisations. Whilst the rewards may be huge, the responsibilities are not to be ignored. Businesses owning an entire TLD space, with an unlimited choice of domain names, will be able to communicate their brand without limit. Owning a TLD ensures complete control over policies, who is registering what name, for what end-use, and the fee for registering.
The number of applications has been vast, new gTLDs accepted will be significantly less; each domain name must be unique so, if there are any names duplicated or confusingly similar, the String Contention procedure will be enforced. Statistics will be discussed with regard the breakdown of new gTLD types, whether they are generic, brand names or geographic.
So, whether companies are intending to use these new gTLDs, or opt to ‘shelve’ them to protect against cybersquatters, there are bound to be many significant changes to the way we are all working and particularly the way search engines will handle and index all these new extensions.
Xavier will discuss the above, from an expert’s perspective.
